Experience
The challenge of learning a foreign language can be formidable, but the rewards are amazing. I have been fortunate to immerse myself in the country, the culture, and the language of Mandarin Chinese, along with other hands-on experiences that have helped me learn how to teach language classes to students of other nations. During my senior year at Florida State University, I participated in an international program at the Tianjin Foreign Studies University and loved it so much that I stayed there to study Mandarin Chinese and learn more about the people. There, I began teaching and tutoring students in English.I found that I enjoyed the opportunity to help students reach their goals. Through tutoring, I discovered that teachers need to be patient, calm, and creative. It has also given me the flexibility necessary to tailor lessons to the student's individual learning style. Since then, I taught English foreign language classes through the Peace Corps in Cambodia and oral English in South Korea to high school students, where I attained a teacher's certificate. In Auckland, New Zealand, I earned my postgraduate degree in Chinese-English Translation at the University. Then I was able to return to China, where I again taught English. I hope to continue my work with non-native language students.
